Most Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is nutritional therapy?
Nutritional therapy is the application of scientifically backed nutrition and lifestyle medicine in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. It recognises that everyone is unique and recommends a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Root cause consultation are relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis; anyone with persistent digestive issues or those wishing to support an autoimmune condition, as well as those looking to enhance their health and wellbeing. Nutritional therapy can support a huge range of health goals, from assessing your current nutrition status to help identify any nutrient insufficiencies, used as a preventative measure to optimise health and wellbeing during the ageing process, identify imbalances in the body to understand how these might be contributing to any symptoms and health concerns you are experiencing.
  • What happens during a nutritional therapy consultation?
Once you have booked your first consultation you will be sent a questionnaire to fill out and return. The questionnaire is gathering information about your current symptoms/health concerns, health goals and your medical history. The consultation is based around your answers to dig deep into the root cause of symptoms.
  • What happens after the consultation?
All the information gathered is reviewed and a personalised nutritional plan is designed with dietary and lifestyle recommendations to support normal function from debilitating symptoms or chronic conditions and emailed to you.
  • What is a personalised nutritional plan?
A personalised nutritional plan is tailored specifically for you and provided after considering all contributing factors that might be impacting your health. Considerations taken into account include your medical history, dietary choices, level of activity, individual health goals and dietary preferences (e.g. Vegan/vegatarian/carnivore etc). With so much generalised dietary information available online and on social media, often by unqualified individuals, makes it overwhelming to know how best to nourish your body to achieve your goals, the information given ignores individual biochemical needs, medical history and any underlying health conditions. Nutritional therapy recognises that everyone is unique and recommends a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Recommendations are not a replacement for medical advice, as a nutritionist I frequently work alongside general medical professionals to support your wellbeing.
  • What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. The functional medicine model is an individualized, patient-centred, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors for a personalized plan that can lead to improved health. By addressing the root cause, rather than symptoms, NT practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. One condition may have many different causes and likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, functional medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.
